Vauxhall Conversions

Hand building to the highest quality of workmanship, the Smartworld conversions team will work together with you to design a conversion that best fits your needs and ideas.

We design and build conversions to look both stylish and to stand the test of time.  We use products which are designed specifically for the campervan and motorhome market – lightweight, durable and pleasing to the eye.  We import leading branded materials from Reimo, RIB, VW sportline, Alupanel, Vohringer, Smev and Waeco.

As a standard we offer a conversion based on the Vauxhall Vivaro, these vans are exclusively distributed by Eden Vauxhall here in Exeter, Marsh Barton.

Smartworld camper van conversion detail

  • Front elevating German Reimo roof sprayed white to match the vehicles paintwork giving 2.3 metres of internal headroom when elevated and a maximimum height of 1.99 metres when closed
  • Stainless steel SMEV 3 burner hob and combined sink unit with smoked glass top and Waeco 50 litre fridge
  • French RIB seat/bed designed to European crash test regulations (TUV) giving a 130cm wide seat moulded for a comfortable travelling position and incorporating two inertia seat belts and two head rests.  The seat folds simply into a flat bed of 186cm by 130cm
  • Complete Sargent 12 volt power system with a Leisure battery and full 12v wiring and split charge system, 240v hook up and consumer unit with 240v socket, tested by qualified electrical engineer
  • Full internal gas system carried out by registered motor home LPG fitter and certificate
  • 25 litres water carrier
  • Units, tall cupboards and fold away table and rail constructed from top quality light weight 15mm German Vohringer beech ply wood with double sided laminate and hot glue edge banded with silver alu trim finish
  • Internal sides – ply lined, insulated and carpeted with soft trim
  • Floor ply lined and insulated and sound deadened with 3m Thinsulate and covered with tough, non-slip and stylish commercial grade vinyl flooring
  • Curtains covering all windows

 

The following internal options and extras have been included

  • Reimo elevating adult bed easy gas spring stowing into roof space.  Will sleep two adults to a total weight of around 150 kg
  • Extra overhead storage over cooking area and at rear in top quality Vohringer
  • Tambour door system
  • Additional LED lighting

Elevating roofs 

We have chosen Reimo as our primary supplier of elevating roofs.  They produce European approved and tested roofs and frames.  They are fitted by our technicians who are all qualified to the highest level of automotive panel beating.  Would you want anyone else cutting holes, fitting and welding in frames to your van?

We can offer the successful Smartworld elevating roof which we have developed with a marine boat builder here in Devon with an international ocean racing pedigree.

Seat bed system

We only fit the RIB style rear travel seats which have been fully crash tested to the European safety regulation standard.  The seat beds come fitted with 3 point integral inertia seat belts as standard.  They are fitted to the floor of every vehicle by our qualified technicians to the manufacturers technically approved specification.

We also have a luxury Smartworld sleeping system which is manufactured as a comfortable memory foam bed and seat.  It has proved to be excellent value for couples who mainly travel as a pair.

Bespoke fitted units

Our units are made by us on site and are fitted to your van by industry qualified craftsmen. All the edges are trimmed and sealed with no gaps to produce a high quality of luxury finish.

Our customers can mix and match our materials to create fantastic professional looks, choosing from two materials in a variety of traditional and modern finishes and colours

  • We use the very best lightweight plywood furniture boards manufactured by Vohringer in many finishes.  We machine finish all the edges of the work surface to produce long lasting and great looking units
  • We also produce a more unique and luxurious set of units.  These units are unaffected by liquid spillage, sunlight, heat, cold and look very professional.  The material is lighter and stronger than Vohringer. It is a composite material which we computer cut and comes in very clean finishes including stainless steel. VW manufacture the units in their factory made California conversion from this new material.

Commercial grade flooring

We offer a vast choice of flooring finishes and colours – from teak yacht flooring to super hardwearing non slip flooring.  We choose our range from commercially proven materials.

The floor is laid on birch plywood and insulated with the same automotive sound deadening pads that all the top vehicle manufacturers use.

Gas and electrical systems

We supply a number of systems to suit your needs.  We recommend the Sargent power management system for the electrics and fit and test all the systems on site.  You will receive gas and electrical certification from our qualified engineers

Power management – we recommend the Sargent power management system for the electrics so we can integrate all your vans internal systems with external hook up systems.

Heating systems – we recommend the Propex blown air heating system.  The majority of our customers choose the Propex system because of its simplicity.  It works directly from the main LPG gas bottle.  It is reliable, has no serviceable parts and most importantly is a very cost effective way of heating your vehicle.

We recommend Surecal Calorifier hot water heaters.  These are excellent water heaters which run off your engine and retain heat for up to 24 hours, which again makes the system very economic.  They can also be run off a 24o volt supply if necessary.

There are also excellent diesel heater and water heating systems, we can recommend.

Insulation techniques

We use automotive techniques to insulate all our conversions for sound and heating, using only the best materials for the job. Our insulation material is a very eco friendly product made from 90% recycled plastic which is totally hypo allergenic itch free and has a top R insulation rating of 5.
